The horses have been in fine form in recent months, so we have felt more than a little hard done by not to have recorded more winners since the New Year. However, the tide appears to have turned in our favour, with Drewmain Legend and Ardmayle combining to give us a double today, making it three wins in two days after the success of Heresmynumber at Sedgefield yesterday!
Drewmain Legend had placed in two big-field handicap hurdles at the turn of the year before failing to run her race on bad ground at Plumpton in February. Given time to recover from that, she came good at the ninth attempt with a battling success, staying on strongly to get up close home from the well-fancied runner-up, the pair eight lengths clear of the third. Hopefully the handicapper will keep her in the same grade and, if so, she should have excellent claims of following up next time. Congratulations to his owner Jane Andrews.
Ardmayle is one we have always thought a lot of and he was a dual winner for us over fences last term. However, he lost his confidence at Fakenham a year ago and we have taken advantage of a lower hurdles mark this term, winning at Leicester in January and making it two wins from his last three runs with a ready success at Chepstow this afternoon in the hands of Andrew Tinkler.
There are more races to be won with him over hurdles, but I am looking forward to sending him back over fences in due course and he still has plenty to offer in that sphere. Congratulations to his owners, The Wishful Thinkers!
